Really enjoyed the race. A lot, despite the rain. Love the community support and the runners who give it their all.
The race was unicorns (literally…unicorn balloons everywhere) and rainbows (figuratively). Went out too fast. Kept going too fast. Taking away the learning experience. Nevertheless, there is something to be said for running what comes naturally to you.
Tried to pull myself back for the first six miles, then essentially gave up and went with the flow. Paid the price after mile nineteen.
All good. Had a blast, managed nutrition and hydration spot on…and looked around a lot more than last year. Certain amount to be said for living in the moment.
More to come after the flight…and an abbreviated nap…
…temperature was nearly ideal. Cool enough to dissipate heat, but not so much to overly chill. Rain was light while waiting for the start, increasing in intensity during the race…but never heavy enough to interfere, although it did reduce lift through a slicker surface.
Nature made demands at around mile twenty, which occupied a few minutes. Only ate one thing different in the morning, so it is easy to identify and will avoid that particular decision next go-round.
Strangely, while the amount and frequency of nutrition was on, around mile twenty-one, started not enjoying the taste. Hopefully this was not a portend of future race nutrition reactions…
Ultimately, the Boston Marathon inspired and impressed me. The athletes, the crowds, and the energy is like no other race.
