Absolutely gorgeous course. Period. Highly recommended to anyone looking to commune with Nature while running.
Started off too fast, but first time on the route, so not entirely unexpected. Two miles of downhill, half a mile of uphill, and about twenty-three miles of downhill of varying grades.
The beginning was moderately rocky, but nothing unavoidable. Mile four was the last serious ankle-turning risk. After that, pure downhill until mile twenty-five. From mile twelve, the route was on the left shoulder of a medium busy road. Traffic did not interfere. The cant of the shoulder caused some minimal fore-foot and knee pain, but again, nothing unavoidable with training.
The race was well-directed (thanks Micahel Albin!) and volunteers (thanks to all of them, especially Team Moo!) made the aid stations a pleasure. Definitely a race to repeat, time and resources willing…
As always, the traveling crew was a blast and fun with whom to run. Met a new friend at the airport who also was running the route…great to meet you Todd!
Chris Fleming…just realized that the average pace for Sundance was the same as the HRC5 last week. Martin Wileman suggested that we just do enough of the HRC5 loops to equal Sundance…what do you think?
